Prolonged sitting and reproductive health

It’s becoming increasingly clear that sitting for too long can have a negative impact on our reproductive health. In particular, there are a few health risks that people in the IT industry might want to look out for, especially if they sit for long periods of time.

Poor blood circulation

Sitting for too long can affect your sex life. Poor circulation can also lead to erectile dysfunction and reduced fertility, so it’s important to take regular breaks.

Increased temperature in the testicles

Men sitting for too long get warmer because their testicles touch the seat. Testicles need to be cool to make sperm. If they get hot, it stops sperm being made. This can affect fertility.

Weak pelvic muscles

Sitting too much makes your pelvic floor muscles weaker. These muscles affect your bladder, bowel and sex life. If they’re weak, you might leak urine or have sexual problems.

Hormonal imbalances

Sitting, working and sleeping too much can cause stress and affect hormones. Too much cortisol can affect sex hormones and reproductive function.

Preventative measures

  • Rest, stretch, exercise and walk.
  • Good posture is important.
  • Train your pelvic floor muscles. Do exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles.

Prolonged display and lack of sleep

👨‍💻Blue light affects us in different ways. Blue light from screens makes it harder to fall asleep and can make sleep shallow.

😴Looking at screens for too long can upset the balance of the nervous system, making it easier for the active sympathetic nervous system to become dominant. This makes it harder to sleep.

Sitting too much is bad for you, now and in the future. Look after your health every day to keep your reproductive organs healthy.
